Mary Gallaway, PCC in NSICU at the Infirmary, was named a Service Hero for displaying the value of COMPASSION.
Mary was nominated for helping the wife of a patient. The woman had been by her husband’s side in ICU for days, washing out her clothes in the bathroom sink. When the wife asked if there was a place to get clean clothes, Mary began to brainstorm.
After learning the hospital thrift shop was closed, Mary checked with the woman to see what items she needed and coordinated with other staff members to purchase the items. She also coordinated with another floor in the hospital to allow the patient’s wife to use their shower.
“Mary went above and beyond for this family and truly reminded us we are here to serve others.”
