North Nurse Named DAISY Winner for Being “The Best We Could’ve Asked For”

Congratulations Kerica Pigee, RN, for being named a DAISY Award winner!

Kerica works in the ICU at CHI St. Vincent North and was nominated by a patient’s family member.

The patient’s wife said Kerica was her husband’s night nurse most of the nights during their stay in the ICU.

“Nights were the worst for my husband. The pain would become unbearable,” the wife explained. “This nurse was always trying new things to help.”

Hot pack, cold pack, hot cloth, cold cloth, the list goes on. Kerica did everything in her power to help him and recommend things that may help. The patient’s wife said she did this while never seeming like they were imposing or being a problem. They were also very appreciative of Kerica’s humor and kind demeanor as it was a great distraction for the severity of what was going on.

“She was just the best we could’ve asked for during that time. We saw her as a someone that could teach others about humanity and compassion.”
