We’re Celebrating Our Team Members During Coworker Appreciation Week
David Cole was named Service Hero at Hot Springs for displaying the values of COMPASSION and EXCELLENCE.
We are truly blessed to have caring, selfless coworkers. It is a vital part of our ministry. David is one of those. Below is an excerpt from his service hero nomination:
On a night when we had multiple trauma patients arrive simultaneously, one particular patient ultimately received 150 units of blood products. There was a team in the lab that worked on packing red blood cells, plasma, Platelets and Cryo in 20 successive coolers for this patient over a 12 hour period. David, in particular, stood out during that event.
Although scheduled for an 8 hour shift, he stayed 16 hours that night and into the next morning to manage the traumas. His night shift coworkers expressed their gratitude for his depth of experience in handling high stress mass transfusion events as well as gratitude for his willingness to stay until the event was over. When day shift techs arrived the next morning, they said David had everything highly organized and began directing them in how to best help care for our patient.
Before he left, he took the time to ensure the documentation for all 150 units was completed. Then, after working 16 hours, knowing how many units of blood product one patient had required, he went downstairs to give blood, as this event occurred during our facility blood drives. At least 6 coworkers made a point of coming to me personally after this event to tell me how excellent David had performed and that in addition to being organized, he was source of calm throughout the entire event. One lab coworker said it best, “David Cole sets the bar high.” He is a truly remarkable coworker.
Thank you David for truly Living Our Mission.
