Father Harvey Recognized as Service Hero
Congratulations Father L. Warren Harvey, Chaplaincy, for being celebrated as an Infirmary Service Hero!
He was nominated for the award by a coworker.
The coworker said CHI St. Vincent’s pastoral care is the best of any hospital they have ever worked in. They said they recently had the chance to work closely with Father Harvey and felt that what he did exemplified their excellence and dedication.
A patient came to the emergency department critically ill after suffering a cardiac arrest. Family arrived shortly thereafter and were told the patient had a very poor prognosis. The family said that the patient was Catholic and that receiving Last Rites was extremely important to them.
The charge nurse, Paige Yates, made a few phone calls and was able to get in touch with Father Harvey.
“Even though Father Harvey was not in the hospital and we were in the middle of a torrential downpour, Father Harvey was at the patient’s bedside within fifteen minutes of our learning of the patient’s wishes.”
Last Rites were administered and Father Harvey stayed with the patient and their family for hours afterward.
“One of the great strengths of St. Vincent’s is the wonderful people we get to work with. Father Harvey’s dedication not only to the patients and families, but to the staff at SVI exemplifies the excellence of our staff and makes the hospital a wonderful place to work.”
