Humankindness Award Goes to Infirmary PCT

We are thrilled to announce that Rachel Blanchard, PCT, of the Infirmary Outpatient Infusion team has been honored with the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award! While Rachel always exhibits compassionate care in the clinical setting, this award recognizes two instances of her remarkable acts of service outside the walls of the hospital. Here’s her nomination:

“On March 24, one of our regular infusion patients was supposed to come for an appointment. He called up the registration desk to inform us that he would not be able to keep his appointment. Rachel was the person that answered the phone. She asked him what was going on. He said that he was in the parking deck and had a bathroom accident. He had soiled his clothes and would not be able to keep the appointment. Rachel, knowing how important it is to keep treatment regimens, told the patient that she would gather supplies and a change of clothes and she would come down and help him get cleaned up so he could keep his appointment. I was able to meet with him once he got into the center and he could not express enough thanks for Rachel. She helped him not only keep his appointment but she showed compassion and helped him maintain dignity.

“On April 8, a patient that had just finished treatment in the infusion center came back and told Rachel that he believed he left his phone behind. He also said that he went out to his car and he thought his car had been stolen. Rachel first looked for his phone and couldn’t find it. She then called security so they could talk to him about his car. When she called security she was told that the patient would have to call the police department about the car. Rachel walked with the patient downstairs and asked the golf cart driver if they would drive them around the parking deck to make sure that the car was really gone. Rachel was able to identify that the man was a little stressed and possibly a little confused since he was having trouble recalling the color of his vehicle. As they drove around the parking deck they were able to locate the vehicle and when he opened the door the phone was sitting in the seat. He had forgotten which floor of the parking deck he was on. He was very appreciative of Rachel taking the time to help him. If it wasn’t for Rachel taking time to show compassion and excellence the police could have been contacted needlessly and it could have taken the man a lot longer to find his car and get home.”

These actions show that humankindness isn’t just a slogan to Rachel; it’s how she lives her life every day. Thank you so much for your extraordinary care for our patients!
