Shane Manong Helps Patient Heal with Humankindness and some Dr. Pepper
Congratulations Shane Manong, RN, Patient Care Coordinator, for being named a Service Hero!
Shane works at the Infirmary in the MedSurg unit and was nominated by a patient.
The patient said they were brought to the emergency department by ambulance in their pajamas. They said their wife was unable to bring them clothes immediately because they live four hours away from the hospital.
When he was brought to a room on the 4th floor the next day, he met Shane.
“This experience made me thank our good Lord for letting me be on this floor. I had a very good, if not, the best nurse I could have.”
Shane noticed the patient was anxious and worried and asked what was wrong. The patient said he didn’t have a change of clothes and wanted some Dr. Pepper, but didn’t have any money to have someone buy some for him.
A few minutes later Shane returned to the patient’s room with a bag of clothes, three Dr. Peppers and a phone charger!
“I was speechless and all I could say to her was thank you very much! I told her that I will pay her back when my wife arrives, but she refused saying that it’s a gift. After that I felt relieved and my anxiousness went away because I knew then and there that I was in the best place to heal.”
The patient said he wasn’t able to see her again to thank her for her kindness and compassion.
“She goes beyond her expected duties and treats her patients as a family. This is the only way I could have thanked her for what she’s done to me and I do hope she wins this award because she really deserves this!”
