Values in Action Team Takes Action in Arkansas

The first week of July, the VIA team at CHI St. Vincent North collected food for Hesed Food Pantry in North Little Rock. Coworkers collected powdered milk, macaroni and cheese and other various items. Leadership then matched the donation with $500.
Hesed Food Pantry is an outreach arm of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock. The pantry is open every Wednesday and feeds anywhere from 150 to 200 families and individuals.
“I helped the HESED team load groceries in cars and many were elderly and some were tearful. Hunger is hard and can be shameful for many. I am proud of the role CHI St. Vincent has taken across the market to tackle this tough issue. The VIA team, including Radiology students, spent the last Saturday in June at the Potluck Food Rescue sorting pallets of produce.
This produce is donated from commercial kitchens and grocers to various hunger relief agencies. CHI St. Vincent North’s cafeteria alone saved over 600 lbs of food that was delivered to organizations like Potluck to feed those in need.
The VIA team sorted through strawberries, raspberries, salad and onions. This allows Potluck staff more time to deliver it to their partnering agencies to get fresh produce to those in need.
On June 17, the VIA team visited Anthem Memory Care in Little Rock to celebrate Earth Day with the residents. They helped plant flowers and spread humankindness. Anthem Memory Care serves and supports individuals living with cognitive impairments and their families. Their purpose is to protect, engage and love people living with memory loss.
