Infirmary Patient Transport Named Service Hero

Bernard Dickey, patient transporter at the Infirmary hospital, has been named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Bernard is always quick to get patients where they need to go safely and securely, but it was his interaction with a patient’s family member that won him this award. Here’s that family member’s story:

“My mom and I unexpectedly got admitted to the hospital today for a clean out of a surgical wound. My phone was dying, and I asked Bernard where I could buy a phone charger. The gift shop was closed, unfortunately, so he said the closest place would be a small pharmacy just down the hill in a physicians building. It was cold and rainy but close enough to walk, so I planned on walking. He ran out and drove me down there on a golf cart so I wouldn’t get lost. He was very friendly and happy to help on a gloomy day that didn’t go as planned. Thank you so much for showing compassion and taking pride in your work.”

We love to hear when our coworkers go out of their way to make a positive experience for our patients and their families. Congratulations, and thank you, Bernard! Remember, if you have a coworker you think should be recognized, you can nominate them! Just click this link and fill out the form.
